HABB has helped many people in need over the years. Here are just some of the beneficiaries the industry charity has been able to offer its support to
Hair case study 1
Ralph was made a beneficiary in 1994, after 33 years in the industry. In 1979, he suffered a nervous breakdown resulting in the loss of his salon business and the breakdown of his marriage. By 1982, he had regained his health, opened another salon and re-married. However, in 1989 Ralph started to suffer the effects of post-polio syndrome resulting in breathlessness and considerable pain, which severly restricts his mobility. Unable to work, Ralph was made a beneficiary, and during those years HABB has helped him with holidays, TV licences and two motorised scooters.
Ralph is extremely grateful for all the help HABB has been able to give him and often sends letters of thanks. "Dear HABB, the scooter arrived today - it really is a wonderful machine. I am really pleased with it and want to thank you all for such wonderful support, enabling me to get this scooter," wrote Ralph.

Ruby has been a child beneficiary since 2004. Her mother was in hairdressing for 35 years, which included time as assistant creative director at Vidal Sassoon. She developed breast cancer at the age of 34, which returned 15 years later. Ruby’s mother sadly died in 2005 when Ruby was just 12 years old.
Ruby is now looked after by her grandmother, which has added a financial burden on the family. HABB gives Ruby monthly pocket money and helps out with school uniform costs and Christmas vouchers.
“I have been totally bowled over by the support and generosity of HABB, and the interest shown towards Ruby’s wellbeing. Ruby brings me great joy and I feel privileged to be bringing her up. Thank you again for your help,” wrote her grandmother, Pat Frampton.
Beauty case study 1
Miss J has been in the beauty industry for almost two years and wanted to attend college to gain her NVQ3 in beauty but, as a single parent with two young children, was finding it difficult to cope with the costs of the course, equipment, childcare and travel. HABB decided that it was important for Miss J to gain further qualifications so she could help gain a better life for her and her family in the future. HABB agreed to make her two children beneficiaries and provide a one-off payment towards her college costs.

Mrs V was a manicurist but is now registered blind and suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis. A recent widow, she moved into a small rented bungalow. She needed financial help to make her shower safe as she had fallen twice and was fearful of further accidents. HABB paid to fix the shower with doors so she could bathe without fear.
